The weather has been hinting at spring lately and I for one am extremely happy. It’s nice to see rain instead of snow for a change. I understand there can be more snow coming. But, warm weather can’t be too far away. I’m ready to play outside in weather like that pictured above. In the picture is my good friend Dennis Eggerton who will be joining us for another great performance on Wednesday April 9th.

Dennis has been playing music for over forty years. He is an excellent singer, songwriter and musician, a triple threat as they say in Nashville. I have had the pleasure of playing music with him for over ten years now. He has been in many groups over the years including Justus, EKG (with another of my friends, Dean Kastran) and The Caffiends to name a few. He has played shows with Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Kathy Mattea, Restless Heart, Diamond Rio, and many others.

Dennis will be playing the entire two hours with us. He will play and sing several of the songs he has written.  I believe he will also do a few songs with us on mandolin. He will be joined by Randie Kilgore on bass and harmonica, Brian Vanderpool on drums and percussion and me on guitar. We will be doing an acoustic/electric first set. Then we will step things up a bit for the second set. There should also be a few surprises during the evening as well.

We will be doing something new this month, too. We will have a couple of items to raffle off. Randie Kilgore’s wife Carla is donating a basket of Avon products. That will make a great gift for someone. In addition, General Manager, Mike Tepi of the Applebee’s Restaurant at I-71 and Rte 13 has donated a gift certificate for dinner at his restaurant. .The money we take in from these two raffles will go directly to the musicians who have been playing for tips. Our musicians have traveled from Columbus, Wooster, South Amherst, Ashland, Sandusky, Willard, and Belleville in addition to Mansfield. So, this is a great way to help support them. Of course, we will still have the tip jar for anyone who would like to support the musicians that way, too. I think this is a good way to help the musicians with gas money without charging admission to our performance.

.The atmosphere created by the room we play in is very conducive to an intimate performance experience. We have half a dozen tables that seat four to six people plus additional seating above the musicians. The music is played at a comfortable sound level. For the best experience I recommend coming a bit early to ensure you get a seat. We have had great support from our audiences and the local media. Once again, I want to thank all of you. So, please keep the 2d Wednesday of the month in mind for Bob Cox and Friends at the Richland Academy. Bring a friend, enjoy some live music during the middle of the week and have some fun.

The performance is from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and is free to the public. The Richland Academy is located at 75 N. Walnut, on the corner of Walnut and 4th Street in downtown Mansfield. Feel free to call the Richland Academy 419-522-8224 or me, 419-543-0613 for further information. We hope to see you there!

The Theatre School at Richland Academy

presents Sentimental Journey: Voices of World War II

Richland Academy is proud to announce the Midwest premiere of Sentimental Journey: Voices of World War II a show conceived and directed by Michael Thomas. The show was originally produced with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and workshopped at Playwright’s Horizon in New York City.  Over 75 World War II veterans, their wives, husbands and families were interviewed for the project, and their “voices” resonate throughout the show.

The show combines eyewitness accounts of life on the front lines and on the home front.  Sentimental Journey: Voices of World War II delivers two dozen song hits and perfectly recaptures the spirit, humor and heartbreak of America’s “Greatest Generation.”

The cast includes singers, musicians and readers from the area including Adena Williams, Jennifer Allen, Dirk Eachus, Mark Stock, Joan Secrest, Virginia Imhoff, Bill Cooper, Eric Snyder, Damian Boyd, Joseph Cole and Joshua Cole. Musical Direction is by Marianne Cooper with additional arrangements by Tom Croghan.

Some song selections are Sentimental Journey, I’ll be Seeing You, In The Mood, Tuxedo Junction, Beat Me Daddy Eight to the Bar and many more.

The show will be held in Don Brody Hall on Friday, April 25th and Saturday, April 26th at 8:00pm and Sunday, April 27th at 2:00pm. Tickets are $12.00 per person with a cash bar available for the Friday and Saturday evening shows.
